A Small Business has a couple options for email.
– You can purchase a product, such as Microsoft’s Exchange Server
– You can use one of the many free email services; yahoo.com, gmail.com, etc
Using the free services is a great way to keep your cost down. There are other benefits too:
- Spam filters and virus checking is built in – for free
- You and your staff can get your email anywhere, on any internet connected PC or mobile device
- Some services include free ‘chat’ capabilities
- Generous amounts of free storage
- You don’t loose anything if/when your PC breaks or you upgrade to another one
As usual, with all these benefits, there is some downsides:
– You MUST be connected to the internet. Although there are some mobile devices that can keep a separate (duplicate) copy of some email right on the device
– Email accounts such as [email protected] or [email protected] don’t give your business a professional look
This last item is something we can help with. If you already have a domain for your business, your domain could accept email and forward it to your free service. You get the benefit of a professional appearance for your email address and business, and can keep all email in your 1 account at your favorite free service.
For instance, an email address such as [email protected] could automatically direct emails to your account; [email protected].
Where ever you registered your domain name, they should have instructions on how to setup forwarding. Godaddy.com is a popular site to purchase domains. Here is their instructions to help setup forwardinghttp://help.godaddy.com/article/365
We can also help do it, if you want our help.
