You need your website to attract visitors, for generating Leads or to sell your product/service. To do that, people need to find your website. Just because a website exists, doesn’t mean people will find it. Search Engines are vital to helping people find you and your site.

Did you know that Google is the most popular search engine? That means Google is an important place to start in improving your Ranking. And Google has their own proprietary way of Ranking. They calculate a PageRank score. Check your score here.
Here is some detailed info on PageRank. But briefly it works like this. Your score is based upon the number of relevant links pointing to your site. By relevant I mean similar in nature. Like a Car Dealership site linking to an autoparts site. That same Car Dealership linking to a Massage Therapy site isn’t a similar or related business. So the link won’t help. In the end it takes many relevant links pointing to your site to boost your ranking.
A quick way to get started is to notify the Search Engines of your site. Sure, if your site is already linked on other sites, the Search Engines should find you by following those links. But a new site won’t have those links yet, so notifying the Search Engines directly is a good place to start.

Most of the other Search engines either get feeds from the Engines above, or they are hardly used and not worth your time posting your Site there. For instance, AOL gets a Google feed.
The next step is to find several other relevent sites. Contact the Webmaster and ask to have a link on their site pointing to your site. Get a minimum of 5 sites, each with an inbound link to your site. These other relevant sites should be a higher page rank than your site. Use the pagerank tool above to check them out.
Recheck your PageRank. Find more sites to place an inbound link. Repeat.
You may never receive a 10 PageRank. But you will steadily see your ranking in all the Search Engines climb.
