It’s time for a Mobile webpage

If you have a smartphone, I’m sure you have done it. You have used your phone to view websites. Restaurants, stores, banking, and finding nearby places – right?

Google reports that nearly 30% of searches come from phones and tablets.

How about your own site? Are you getting mobile traffic? If you followed my tip on collecting statistics then you know if you are.

If you are ready for a mobile webpage, here is an easy way to create one yourself.  There are several sites that let you build a Mobile webpage.  One such site is WinkSite.com.

When you use such a tool, remember to simplify your web page.  Consider what are the top 3 or 4 actions a mobile person needs to do.  Call you?   Get directions to your location?  If you are a restaurant, see your Menu?  How about showing your specials?

Keep it simple and easy for your Mobile page.

Once you use a tool to create your Mobile page, now you need to make it work with your website.  Preferably, your website detects that the device is a smartphone or tablet, and presents your Mobile page instead of your full website.

That takes some editing of your Website to add some code, which you can get from MobileESP.  If this part seems to complicated, call or email me and I can help.

Mobile visitors to your Website?

The population of Smartphone users is growing everyday. That means more Visitors could be viewing your Website on their phone. But how many?

Is it time to consider having special “mobile” webpages for popular activities or to complete more sales?

The first step is to uncover how many mobile visitors you have today. And what pages are they visiting. That means collecting some statistics on your Website.

There are several tools available for collecting statistics. A very easy one is StatCounter. Once you signup for your free account, StatCounter gives you a small piece of code to place within your Website.

With this snippet of code, StatCounter can collect information on everyone’s visit to your website. Including what browser your visitor is using. That statistic will help you see how many ‘mobile’ people are using your website.

Give StatCounter some time to start collecting statictics. At least a week.

Within the StatCounter website, click on BROWSERS to see if you have mobile visitors on your website.

If you do, click on POPULAR PAGES to see the most often viewed pages. Click on the magnifying glass to see the details of what browser was used and more.

I barely touched on all the great information StatCounter will capture for you. Take a look at all the other stats too. Enjoy.

Mobile Search Application

A free mobile phone application, that was released a couple years ago, is gaining popularity.  It’s called Poynt and it’s available on the top 3 smart phones; iPhone, Blackberry, and Android.   It’s a mobile search tool to search in your local surroundings. Poynt does a good job of helping the mobile person find Businesses, Movies, Events, People, Restaurants, Gas prices, and weather.

For Businesses, Poynt helps you:

  • Search to find the closest services you need
  • Call the business without exiting the Poynt application
  • View the Business’ website
  • Save the listing info in your address book
  • E-mail or Tweet the listing info to a friend
  • Map your route there, from your current location

Maybe you don’t have a Smart Phone or you aren’t a “mobile” application user.  That’s OK.  But your Customers are.  So it’s important that you and your Business information is accessible by Poynt.  The best way to do that is to make sure you and your Business is listed in SuperPages.com and CitySearch.com.

To get more info on Poynt, go to http://Poynt.com.
